Globalstar announced this week their completed funding for launching of their 2nd generation array of satellites which will now begin in early 2010.
At present the larger antennas on the 2900s and FAU 200s allow some sites and some marine applications to function in Alaska.
But the handheld units, with lower gain and 2 degrees less or range to the horizon are just not viable in Alaska at this time.
However, prices are low, with a $35 dollar all inclusive until such time the array is in place and functioning.
The 1700 handheld phone can be purchased from us for $600, and we have used 2900s ($3000 value) which we can sell for $499.
