What is Starband?

It is a full duplex satellite internet system designed to provide broadband access to the internet from remote locations.

What does R & R charge to provide this service?

 As a distributor R & R will order the equipment for you at cost and install the system and software.   R & R charges only $100 for the installation.   Monthly fees are paid to Starband and there are several payment plans.

What is Globalstar?

 Globalstar operates Near Earth Orbit Satellites which as transceivers allow the owner of a handheld or fixed globalstar phone access to the land based communications system through an earth stations in Alberta and Florida.

What would be my cost on a Globalstar setup?

 A handheld, portable Globalstar phone looks much like a cell phone and is available from R & R Satellite or Seaport Telecommunications for less than $500.   As prices change frequently, please contact sales.   Several calling plans are available with costs less than 50 cents per minute.

How does Globalstar differ from a cell phone?

 A cell phone operates on line of sight to a land based tower.   If there are no towers in range, your cell phone reads “no service.”    As you travel in Montana and other mainly rural states this problem is readily evident.    In marginal areas we all fade in and out of contact, disrupting our calls and our businesses.    The Globalstar satellite system operates by establishing contact with a transceiver overhead which has 100% coverage in all of Montana.

Can I use the globalstar phone to connect to the internet?

 The Globalstar phone provides a regular dial tone and connection to the phone network.  However, the speed of the connection at present for data transfer is 14.4 kps which is the speed of a fax machine, but is somewhat slower than many of today’s internet connections.

How soon can I get a system installed?

 R & R Satellite will deliver a Globalstar phone to you within 3 days.   For a Starband system the necessary equipment is delivered to us within a week and we can install it in less than half a day.
